Unit Converter is a free app for Windows Phone that allows you to convert values between a range of different units of measurement.
What Unit Converter can tell you
Unit Converter has a large array of different units of measurement, divided into categories (length, temperature, speed, time, volume, angle, weight, and area). Although it's a pretty wide range, there are some notable units of measurement absent from the application, such as stones, cubic meters, cups, spoons, etc.
There are a few types of conversions we'd like to see in Unit Converter too, such as currency, or bytes. The app is also missing a custom converter feature too which would allow the user to input their own conversion rates for a particular unit of measurement.
Perform quick conversions on the fly
The Microsoft Unit Converter is very easy to use, making conversions very quick. Tap the 'Conversions' button to set the units of measurement you want to convert between. Units are listed by measurement type (length, temperature, volume, etc.) and you can flick between them by sliding your finger across the screen.
You can 'favorite' certain conversion rates so that you have quick access to them when you load the app.
Simple but not always effective
Unit Converter employs a classic Windows Phone UI design which is well suited to the application. It's not much to look at but is functional enough.
One of the few frustrating things about the app though is that it doesn't allow you to combine two units of measurement during a conversion. You can add a decimal point, but not a smaller unit of conversion. That's to say, for example, you couldn't directly convert 5 foot 4 inches into meters, or 4 pounds 7 ounces into kilograms.
Microsoft Unit Converter is quick and easy to use and is ideal for basic conversions. But the application lacks the capability for more complex conversions, and a currency converter would be a useful addition, too.
